That was 2016! - Review

Tag der Shanty-Chöre in Cuxhaven - Shantys Nonstop

On June 19th and 20th, 2016 it was time again for the Tag der Shanty-Chöre. More than 400 singers from all across Germany and The Netherlands made Cuxhaven the capital of shanties and created a maritime atmosphere with their shanties and seasongs.

Tag der Shanty-Chöre in Cuxhaven - Shanty-Café On Friday a few of the groups that had already travelled to Cuxhaven gathered in the Shanty-Chor-Messe for celebrating the event with a Shanty-Café dominated by the real work songs all performed a capella and unplugged. The overwhelming success last year was motivation enough for the Shanty-Chor Cuxhaven to organise this evening one more time. And also in 2015 it was a big success in the well-stocked Shanty-Chor-Messe. A story to be continued!

Tag der Shanty-Chöre in Cuxhaven - Auftritte in den Kurteilen Saturday started already at 11.00 o'clock with the Shanty-Chor Cuxhaven on a boat passing the Alte Liebe platform and Grimmershörn Bay singing in front of a big audience surrounding the shore. In the early afternoon the shows in many different locations took place and even The Forebitter Men could perform under the Kugelbake in bright sunshine.

Saturday traditionally finished with the Maritime Gala moderated by Wolfgang Zinow - this year for the second time - who competently and amusingly guided through the program with 4 choirs and 2 groups. At the Kommersabend following the Gala the Het Leeuwarder Shantykoor from The Netherlands put the audience into good humour in the beautifully decorated Foyer of the Kugelbake-Halle.

Tag der Shanty-Chöre in Cuxhaven - Maritimer Gala-Abend

Sunday morning started with the maritime devotion at 09:45 o'clock followed by Shantys Nonstop in the Kurpark with 30-minute-performances of all choirs. The traditional pea soup was offered by the German Red Cross but also pizza, coffee and cake as well as strawberry bowl were served.

Tag der Shanty-Chöre in Cuxhaven - Shantys Nonstop At about 18:30 o'clock all remaining singers gathered on stage to sing the Frisian song "Wo die Nordseewellen...". An awesome finale of a once again felicitous event, that was excellently organised by Marina Albers and her colleagues of the Nordseeheilbad Cuxhaven GmbH.
